I remember watching David's very first Idol audition. He was this super young, kinda awkward kid, & he's talking about how he had a paralyzed vocal chord. I'm like - MAN, this kid is gonna have a terrible voice, & Simon's gonna rip him apart, and I'm gonna feel bad because he seems like a nice guy. Poor thing.

Well... I've never been so relieved & surprised at the same time.

My fan story is unusual because I actually liked him LESS after a few weeks of the show. Every time Ryan asked him a question, he would come out with this super sweet, gushy, adorable nonsense - so I thought. I would watch him slip a valuable life lesson into every answer & "so David, what was your most embarrassing moment?" ... "oh, probably while I was doing charity work in Honduras with my mother, who is my hero, and she saved me, and I'm adorable and my heart is made of pure gold..." I just didn't buy it. Sorry David. :(

So what brought about the tremendous change from David-skeptic to diehard-Archie? It's hard to pinpoint the moment of my ~transition, but I know the thought process went something like this: Either this kid is the world's greatest actor and has a keenly manipulative mind... or he's genuinely that sweet.

Getting to "know" him through the show every week made it obvious that he was the purest soul, the most real contestant ever on the show. Probably the most honest person I've still ever come across.

One moment I *can* pinpoint though...

That strut onto the stage for his "Apologize" duet with OneRepublic. That will always, always, always be my favorite & most defining moment as an Archie. It made it impossible to go back, and here I am, more than 2 years later. :)
